The CN Tower
On this website, you’ll see plenty of pictures of the CN Tower, the tallest free standing structure in the world. It’s a hard to miss aspect of the Toronto landscape and you don’t really need directions to it since you can see it from miles (or kilometers, since we use metric in Canada!) away. The tower stands 553.33 metres (or 1,815 feet, 5 inches) high. It was built in 1976 by Canadian National (CN). The “CN” in CN Tower now stands for “Canada’s National” so officially the tower is now known as Canada’s National Tower. For the record, the CN Tower stands on Front Street in between the Rogers Centre and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Once you get to the CN Tower, there is a lot more to do than just admire the view from high above Toronto. The 360 Restaurant stands 350 metres above the city and gets its name from the fact that it is a revolving restaurant with a 360 degree view of Toronto.
The Sky Pod elevator takes you 447 metres above the city and gives you a great view of not only Toronto but often the ability to see as far away as Niagara Falls on a clear day. Don’t forget to check out the Glass Floor too. Exactly as it sounds, it a clear piece of glass that you can stand on and when you look down at your feet, keep looking because you’ll actually see 1,122 feet to the ground! One level up from there is the Look Out Level where you can stop at the café for a drink and get some pictures from the photo desk.
For the kids, you’ll also find a video arcade and a 4.5 minutes ridefilm called LEGO Racer MAX AXEL based on the LEGO Racers Characters. Finally, The Height of Excellence is a 15-minute film that details the construction of the CN Tower and is also for sale in the gift shop if you want to take a copy home. To learn more about the CN Tower including hours of operations and pricing, check out their official website.
