School Trips to Toronto

Traveling to Toronto with a School Group

As the financial and economic center of Canada, Toronto has long been one of the country’s most significant cities in terms of art, culture and history.

Moreover, the city’s lively, cosmopolitan vibe makes it a great destination for any school or university group above and beyond the usual learning experiences.

Group Accommodation

There are a range of youth hostels in Toronto catering to school and university groups exploring the city which offer affordable dormitory accommodation and helpful extras such as complimentary breakfasts and internet access.

The Canadiana Backpackers Inn also benefits from a great central location: just three blocks from the CN Tower it’s convenient for all the sights as well as the city’s exciting entertainment district.

Educational Attractions

Toronto has a wealth of museums and galleries to offer school groups, from contemporary art at MOCCA to sports memorabilia at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

One of the highlights, however, is the Ontario Science Center, an interactive exhibition space that runs relevant and constantly changing displays. The current program focusing on Mars (complete with IMAX movie) also has special features for school trips.

In addition to its state-of-the-art design, the Royal Ontario Museum has significant collections of natural history and world culture, including the ever-popular dinosaur exhibit.

Landmarks

The tallest free-standing structure in the Americas, the CN Tower is the most recognizable sight of the Toronto skyline. As well as its architectural significance, the tower offers a great panorama over the entirety of the city from its observation deck.

The Fort York National Historic Site is a rather older, but similarly significant, monument in Toronto. Originally built as a point of defense against outside attacks from the newly independent United States, the fortifications have now been reconstructed to the west of downtown as a city museum.

Entertainment

As part of Toronto’s charm is derived from its diverse neighborhoods and cuisine, eating out is also a great way to experience the city’s unique vibe. From the colorful Kensington Market to bustling Chinatown and the barbecue joints on fashionable Queen St. West, Toronto is full of great restaurants to suit every taste and budget.

The city’s social scene is also famously lively, with bars, cafés and comedy all packed into downtown Toronto. The active theater district makes an attractive excursion, with venues hosting performances that range from local community drama to Broadway standards.

Similarly, the large multi-purpose Rogers Centre stadium (formerly known as the SkyDome) has a range of sporting events and concerts to keep groups entertained.
