The 2007 Toronto Film Festival
The Toronto Film Festival occurs every September and is an excellent event to attend whether you’re a film buff, celebrity watcher or both.
Many major films have their debut here at the 10-day festival and if you’re into films and want to attend a major film festival, it’s a lot cheaper to grab a flight and hotel package to Toronto than to Cannes! The 2007 festival occurs from September 6-15th and by the time the event finishes, over 300 films will have been shown. The festival began in 1976 and was originally known as The Festival of Festivals. Since then it has grown into one of the most well-regarded films festivals in the world. Many consider the Toronto Film Festival to be second only to the Cannes Film Festival in importance so you can expect to have the opportunity to see a film or two that will most likely be considered for the major film awards several months later. One of the best things about the festival is that it features an excellent variety of films for festival-goers to choose from ie. major productions, indies, Canadian films and international films from a wide variety of countries.
Among other categories of films to choose from are Galas (ie. high-profile premiers like Ray, A History of Violence, and Walk The Line in past years), Special Presentations (ie. Capote, Corpse Bride in past years), Canadian Retrospective, Contemporary World Cinema, Short Cuts Canada and much, much more. The festival makes it easy for festival goers by offering passes and coupon books that are redeemed for entry at various films. Tickets can be purchased in advance of various events, too. To check out full film schedules, to purchase tickets and to learn more about the Toronto Film Festival, visit their website: Toronto International Film Festival Website Tip: I live right across the street from one of the restaurants that tends to attract a lot of celebrities who hang out here during the Toronto Film Festival so if you’re a celebrity watcher, the festival is a great way to meet your favorites and possibly grab a picture or autograph or two. The Bay Street/Bloor Street area is where much of the action happens and is very close to many of the hotels where the stars tend to stay.
