Also, several other areas along Queen’s Quay have been designated as green spaces and work has been done to turn a former parking lot into a beach area that people can access. Here is what the space looked like during the summer of 2006 when it was still being built.
Again, the bigger question was what to do with the waterfront on a bigger scale and in June 2006, these plans were finally announced. Among other things the revitalization project will complete the Martin Goodman Trail used by cyclists and rollerbladers which is currently disjointed given that it passes right through the downtown core along busy Queen’s Quay. Also, the revitalization project also includes the addition of an 18 metre promenade including a wooden boardwalk, floating piers and a series of bridges that will extend public accessibility in the area. Currently, this area is somewhat underutilized and as a local resident, I’m looking forward to seeing the final result.
